NaNoWrMo

National November Writing Month:

Excited to start the challenge off with 2311 words typed today!!

The journey truly begins with a word and so the next 29 days I will be writing and blogging about my journey. Today's challenged started with a sinus head ache due to the change in weather and a 15 month old who  loves to get into everything (especially crayons ;-).

So once she was settled down for a nap I decided to make a mad dash to the computer to write as many words as possible. I am working on my second book that is set in the same town as the first one Lincolnton, Kansas. It is going to be another historical romance and I am excited to be continuing with the Malone/Henry family as they welcome a new addition and a family member with a past.

One key technique that has helped me with this writing challeneg is to have an outline of how I want the chapters to go. Having this skeleton to help me has been intrumental in my writing adventures. I also love this chance to dig back into the lives of my characters once again. Having the deadline of Nov. 30 is a great way to make sure I stay on task. I don't know about you guys, but when I have a deadline I am pretty good about keeping it. It's kinda like a grade for school and nerds like me ;-) don't like to get bad grades, so I write.

I wish everyone a happy journey and to remember even if you dont reach your goal of 1667 a day-keep writing.......

Each journey starts with a word...

Obedience is better than sacrifice

Well book one is on the way and now I feel that book two should be following. Sitting here I am trying to gather my thoughts and decide what angle I want to start writing. I love the thought of putting my ideas together and coming out with a story that has a life of its own. Although my world is historical, I would never trade it for anything. Making a town appear from nothing is a gift that I don't take lightly. So, in the words of my favortie character "This is my town".

Thought for today:
Write, type, or scratch down whatever words you want to say. Keep these ideas so that later you can come back to it and add more. One thing that I find helpful as a writer is to keep writing, no matter how tired or upset I am. Your thoughts will spill onto the page and create a master piece.

So today, start with a word...even if it is a single word.....write!

Happy Writing!!

My Response to Writing Prompt Number #7-Agent Courtney

Although there is the obvious things to do in Reno, there is something that one could do that would be different-kidnapping his long lost child back from his estrange wife. Mike had waited for the right time for years to do this and knew that Carla always wanted to go on vacation to Reno for her 30th birthday. There would be lots of family there and plenty of distractions to keep her busy. He knew this would be the time to slide in unsuspectingly and grab his daughter, whom desperately needed him. Mike missed the court date to gain custody due to being an overworked cop. He had let his job get in the way once, but this time he was breaking all the rules to get the one person that loved him more than anything. Mike knew that once he grabbed Chloe that it would be a run to Canada where he would be safe with her and way from the clutches of Carla.

Genre

After getting my little baby girl to sleep I think now is the perfect time to write a few things down. Well, thinking it's time to explore new options. Thus, the big word for the day is GENRE. Genre is class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique. Basically the category in which you would put your writing, in this case romance. To further categories you can say inspirational, historical, paranormal etc. So deciding to change genres can be a tricky business, but what is life without a few new risks? Who knows, you could be missing your niche because of fear. I don't think a person should give up on one genre to just get a sale in another, but instead to maybe try having one or more areas that you write. With the market for romance continuing to change, the write has to be able to continually change. So with that being said here are a few sites that have popped up on my radar to help with the genre or sub-genre issue:

Begins with a word

Alright here we go.....

We have just finished our Romance Writers of America(RWA) Conference and I am pumped! I have decided to take the advice of the nice ladies I met and begin a blog about my writing career and to also pose the questions to others on their journey.....How did they begin or why?

For me it was really simple...I loved to write and it was something that gave me peace. Sounds simple...well it was simple. I love teaching and find great joy in helping others find their gift in writing, but I have to admit there is no joy like putting your words on paper( or computer screen lol.)

So for all my writers, whether it be romance, fiction, or non-fiction...why do you write??
